Tablenight

Fri 4 Sep

This was Friday, September 4.

Our first night. Five rooms whose own door policy makes a seat tonight possible.

We never hold, resell or book a table. Availability moves minute to minute, so go early rather than late.

Le French Diner

Lower East Side

Ten stools wrap an open kitchen, and there are three tables behind them. French, close, and lit like someone's apartment at midnight.

walk in — they take no reservations

Walk-in only, per The Infatuation's walk-in guide and Condé Nast Traveler.

Sailor

Fort Greene

Wood panelling, harbour lamps, white cloths on the tables. The tavern side stays low and warm long after the kitchen gets busy.

bar seats in the tavern, first come

Most tavern bar seats and one or two tables are kept for walk-ins, per The Infatuation.

Lei

Chinatown

Twenty-eight seats on the bend of Doyers Street, the pedestrian block nobody walks by accident. Wine, regional Chinese plates, and a room that stays quiet.

walk in — they keep seats back nightly

Their own site: a limited number of reservations 14 days out, walk-ins welcome nightly.

their hours and policy

Dean's

Hudson Square

Candlesticks that have dripped down onto the bar, good wine by the glass, a British pub with the lights kept low. Eight seats at that bar.

walk in early — the bar is kept for walk-ins

All eight bar seats and most tables are kept back for walk-ins, per The Infatuation.

Prosciutto

East Village

Eight tables and a short counter, pasta made in the room, nothing about it trying to be fancy. The kind of small that makes two people talk quietly.

walk in — no book to get into

Walk-in only, per The Infatuation's date-night guide.

None of these work tonight? Tell us what does — $12.

Your party, your neighborhood, your hour. One person researches tonight and sends three to five rooms with the way in, under 10 minutes.

Tonight, For You

Four of these five keep no book, so there is no page to send you to. That is the point of them.

Tonight’s five are here.
