Five New York rooms you can sit in tonight.
We never hold, resell or book a table. Availability moves minute to minute, so go early rather than late.
Via Carota
West Village
The Grove Street osteria that rewrote how New York eats Italian — vegetable antipasti, cacio e pepe cut thick, a bellini at the bar while the room hums under dried flowers. Rita Sodi and Jody Williams' little empire began here, and it still feels like being let in on something.
walk in — the osteria keeps no reservation book at all; the words on their own page are simply "walk-ins always welcome"
Their own site prints the hours "Lunedi al Giovedi" "11:00am—11:00pm" with "Walk-ins always welcome" right beneath, and no booking link exists anywhere on the page.
Kiki's
Lower East Side
The Greek taverna on Division Street where saganaki still flames at the table and the branzino comes whole off the grill — warm wood, loud families, entrées priced like it used to be normal. The Lower East Side dinner this street was built on.
walk in — the door is the whole system; only parties of four or more are asked to book ahead
Their own reservation page opens "Walk-ins are always welcome. For groups of 4 or more, we recommend booking ahead," and their hours table prints Wednesday "12 PM – 12 AM."
Superiority Burger
East Village
Brooks Headley's vegetarian diner across from Tompkins Square — the crunchy romaine salad, the namesake burger, daily specials on a board, served fast in a sleek little room that never lost the joke. You leave wondering where the meat was supposed to be.
walk in — the diner counter and back bar are always first-come-first-serve, and when no tables show bookable online, a walk-in one usually waits
Their own booking page states "We are primarily a walk-in based restaurant... The diner counter and back bar are always first-come-first-serve," and their own site prints Wednesday "5:00PM-11:00pm."
Wu's Wonton King
Two Bridges
Under the Manhattan Bridge since 1982: a big round-table Chinatown room turning out handmade wontons, roast pork with crackling skin and Peking duck by the half. A pot of tea, a lazy Susan, and dinner the way a family banquet runs.
walk in — there is no reservation channel of any kind on their site, just a phone number and a door
Their own site prints "Open Hour Monday - Sunday: 7:00 AM - 10:30 PM" and offers nothing but takeout ordering and a phone — no booking page exists.
Dutch Kills
Long Island City
Long Island City's foundational cocktail bar — hand-crushed ice, tin ceiling, a horseshoe bar pouring classics like the American Trilogy since 2009. Start with dinner elsewhere or don't: the snacks are honest, the drinks are the point, and it runs past midnight.
walk in — there is no reservation system at all; a stool at the horseshoe bar is the whole arrangement
Their own site prints "Sunday to Thursday 5PM until 2AM," and no reservation link or booking page exists anywhere on it.
None of these work tonight? Tell us what does — $12.
Your party, your neighborhood, your hour. One person researches tonight and sends three to five rooms with the way in, under 10 minutes.
We loaded every one of these pages ourselves before writing this. Check their hours again before you put your coat on.
That’s tonight. Coat, keys, go.
