Sun 4 Oct

This was Sunday, October 4.

Five rooms where a Sunday seat needs no app: one takes walk-ins at the bar and the dining room both, and the tiny wine room on West 10th keeps its bar for whoever shows. Two are in Brooklyn, three in Manhattan, and none of them asks for a card.

We never hold, resell or book a table. Availability moves minute to minute, so go early rather than late.

West10West

West Village

A twenty-three-seat natural-wine room tucked onto West 10th Street — low-lit, all share plates and skin contact, the kind of room the Village does best but rarely at this size. Twenty-three seats means the bar is where the walk-in luck lives, and the site says the luck is usually good before prime time.

The way in

walk in — the bar is welcome to walk-ins when seats are open, and the rest of the room books through Resy; dinner runs 5 to 10pm Sunday through Thursday

Why we say so

Their own site states "walk-ins welcome at the bar when seats are open," with hours of "5–10p Sun–Thu" for the 242 West 10th Street room on the same page.

Bar Louise

Park Slope

A neighborhood wine-and-oysters bar on Fifth Avenue with a backyard that carries the summer — natural wines by the glass, oyster happy hours, and the easy hum of a block everyone lives on. A Sunday dinner that asks nothing of you but showing up.

The way in

walk in — the room takes reservations and walk-ins alike, and the kitchen closes at 10pm daily, so Sunday dinner runs right up to that line

Why we say so

Their own site states "reservations + walk-ins welcome," with Sunday hours of 1pm to 11pm and a note that the "kitchen + backyard closes at 10pm daily" on the same page.

Maison Premiere

Williamsburg

The oyster bar and absinthe café behind its Bedford Avenue trellis — a marble bar, a garden, absinthe service with the proper water drip, and a shellfish list that reads like a tide chart. One of New York's loveliest rooms, and it does not require you to plan for it.

The way in

walk in — the bar keeps seats for walk-ins and so does the dining room, depending on availability, with the full menu served until 10:30pm every day

Why we say so

Their own site states "Walk-ins are always welcome at the bar, as well as in the dining room, depending on availability," with Sunday bar hours of 10am to 1am and the full menu "SERVED UNTIL 10:30PM EVERYDAY" on the same page.

P.J. Clarke's

Midtown East

The 1884 saloon on Third Avenue, red-lit and unbothered — raw bar, the Cadillac burger, and a front bar room that has outlived everything around it since Grover Cleveland was a private citizen. Sunday in Midtown is quiet; the bar is first come first served, and it always has been.

The way in

walk in — the bar is always first come first served and walk-ins are welcome, while the dining room books through Resy; Sunday runs 11:30am to 11pm

Why we say so

Their own site states "Walk-ins are also welcome. The bar is always first-come, first-served," with Sunday hours of 11:30 am to 11 pm for the 915 Third Avenue room on the same site.

Ella Social

Upper West Side

A Spanish tapas-and-natural-wine room on Columbus Avenue near Lincoln Center — patatas bravas, jamón, vermouth on ice, and a sidewalk terrace for the warm evenings. The pre-curtain dinner that the neighborhood has been missing, and it says walk-ins welcome outright.

The way in

walk in — the room states walk-ins welcome outright, with Resy there only if you insist on a plan; Sunday runs 10am to 9pm

Why we say so

Their own site states "Walk-ins welcome," with Sunday hours of 10 AM to 9 PM on the same page.
