Thu 8 Oct
This was Thursday, October 8.
One new room tonight and four return guests, every line re-read at each room’s own site this afternoon. The new one keeps its whole room for walk-ins until 2am; the oldest diner in Chinatown and the oldest deli in the city both hand their small tables to whoever turns up. Nothing here asks for a card or a login — the door is the reservation.
We never hold, resell or book a table. Availability moves minute to minute, so go early rather than late.
Paradise Lost
East Village
A late-night room on Second Avenue that keeps its hours when the neighborhood is still out — food menu, full bar, and doors that stay open until 2am every night of the week. The whole room is saved for whoever walks in, parties of eight or fewer.
The way in
walk in — the room is walk-in only, 5pm to 2am every night, parties of eight or fewer, strictly 21 and over
Why we say so
Their own homepage prints "5PM to 2AM Every Night," "Walk-in Only," "No Parties Larger than 8" and "Paradise Lost is strictly 21+."
Bar Pisellino
West Village
The Italian bar on Grove Street where the day runs from bomboloni at the marble banco to digestivi at the sidewalk tables — spuntini, vermouth, and no noise louder than the espresso machine. On a Thursday the café belongs to the street.
The way in
walk in — the banco and the café tables take no bookings, “senza prenotazione — no reservations,” every day 8am to 11pm
Why we say so
Their own site prints "Tutti Giorni • 8am to 11pm" and "SENZA PRENOTAZIONE NO RESERVATIONS AL BANCO • OUTDOOR CAFE."
Nom Wah Tea Parlor
Chinatown
The dim sum parlor that opened Doyers Street in 1920 — formica and red vinyl down a crooked alley the guidebooks still round to. On a Thursday afternoon and evening, the parlor’s two-tops answer to nobody but the door.
The way in
walk in if you’re a party of two — the parlor seats two-tops at the door only, on every day it’s open, while parties of three to five book through Resy on weekdays; open 11am to 9pm every day
Why we say so
Their own FAQ states "Parties of 2 are accepted only as walk-ins on all days" and "We are open everyday from 11 AM to 9 PM, including all major holidays" — re-read at their site today.
Katz's Delicatessen
Lower East Side
The deli that never left 1912 — pastrami carved by hand at the counter, rye wrapped in paper, a ticket you keep like a receipt from history. A Thursday seat here is a stool at the counter with the city’s loudest slicing line.
The way in
walk in — take a ticket at the counter and hand it to the carver; Thursday runs 8am to 11pm and the only booking the deli takes is for large groups
Why we say so
Their own hours page prints "Monday - Thursday: 8:00 AM - 11:00 PM," and the only reservation anywhere on their site is a "Group Reservations" link.
Dutch Kills
Long Island City
Long Island City's foundational cocktail bar — hand-crushed ice, tin ceiling, a horseshoe bar pouring classics like the American Trilogy since 2009. Start with dinner elsewhere or don't: the snacks are honest, the drinks are the point, and Thursday runs past midnight.
The way in
walk in — there is no reservation system at all; a stool at the horseshoe bar is the whole arrangement, and Thursday pours 5pm to 2am
Why we say so
Their own site prints "Sunday to Thursday 5PM until 2AM," and no reservation link or booking page exists anywhere on it — re-read at their site today.
None of these work tonight? Tell us what does — $12.
Your party, your neighborhood, your hour. One person researches tonight and sends three to five rooms with the way in, under 10 minutes.
We loaded every one of these pages ourselves before writing this. Check their hours again before you put your coat on.
Tonight’s five are here.
