Wed 4 Nov

This was Wednesday, November 4.

Five Wednesday door attempts, with each room’s own policy checked today. One is a small-plates supper; another serves barbecue first come at the counter. These are published ways in, not live seat counts. There may be a wait; we never hold tables.

We never hold, resell or book a table. Availability moves minute to minute, so go early rather than late.

Maison Premiere

Williamsburg

The Bedford Avenue oyster-and-absinthe room takes its cues from New York, Paris and New Orleans. Let Wednesday linger over shellfish; the full menu ends at 10:30pm, with oysters served until 11:30pm.

The way in

ask for a walk-in bar seat, subject to availability. Wednesday: bar noon to 1am, full menu until 10:30pm, oysters until 11:30pm

Why we say so

Their site says “Walk-ins are always welcome at the bar, as well as in the dining room, depending on availability.” Monday–Thursday bar hours are noon–1am, with oysters served until 11:30pm. The full menu ends at 10:30pm every day. Dining room and garden reservations also exist; the bar is our way in. Homepage and contact page re-read today.

Raoul's

SoHo

On Prince Street, twelve burgers au poivre are served only at the bar during dinner. Try early if that is your plan; neither a burger nor a stool is promised.

The way in

ask for the first-come bar, not a reserved dining table. Bar opens 5pm; kitchen opens 5:15pm. Bring a chipped payment card; no Apple Pay

Why we say so

Their site says “The bar is seated on a first come, first served basis at all times.” Dinner runs seven days, with the bar opening at 5pm and kitchen at 5:15pm. Twelve burgers are served at the bar during dinner; no closing time or last-order cutoff is published. Card payments require an inserted chipped card, and Apple Pay is not accepted. Re-read today.

Bar Torino

Hudson Yards

Above the West lobby at 50 Hudson Yards, grilled artichokes with mint pesto and little paninetti make a lighter supper. This is an evening small-plates menu, not a full dinner; try it for a shorter Wednesday escape.

The way in

enter the West lobby via Hudson Blvd East, then take the stairs on the right. First come; Wednesday small plates 4pm to 9pm. Go before closing

Why we say so

Their Hudson Yards page says “No reservations needed...Bar Torino is first come, first served.” Monday–Friday room hours are written as “8am to 9p”. The evening menu lists “Piccolini” from 4pm–9pm; lunch ends at 4pm. No separate last-order cutoff is published. This is the mezzanine at 50 Hudson Yards, not the Public Theater location. Location and menu pages re-read today.

Fairfax

West Village

The West 4th neighborhood room serves bay scallop toast with burnt orange and pickled fennel. Follow it with roast chicken and salsa verde, and make dinner the unhurried part of Wednesday.

The way in

ask for a walk-in bar seat or table at 234 West 4th Street. Wednesday dinner: 5pm to 11:30pm. Join the name-and-cell queue if needed

Why we say so

Their page says “We set aside bar seats and few indoor and sidewalk tables for walk-ins.” Wednesday–Friday dinner is listed as “5pm-11:30pm”; no separate last-order cutoff is stated. The team takes a name and cell number, estimates the wait and sends updates. Guests seeking a full meal get priority over drinks-only walk-ins. Indoor and yurt dining also take reservations. Location and dinner menu pages re-read today.

Hometown Bar-B-Que

Red Hook

Oak-smoked brisket and cornbread with honey butter make a substantial supper on Van Brunt Street. Go early for the first-come counter; food can sell out before either of the site’s conflicting closing times.

The way in

join the first-come counter at 454 Van Brunt Street. Wednesday homepage hours: noon to 9pm, or sellout. Menu says 10pm; plan earlier. Seating is not guaranteed

Why we say so

Their site offers “walk-up service to our counter on a first-come, first-served basis” until the day’s offerings sell out. The homepage lists Wednesday noon–9pm, while the Red Hook menu page instead says noon–10pm. We use 9pm as the conservative planning limit, with service potentially ending earlier on sellout. Counter access is not a promise of seating or remaining food. Homepage and Red Hook menu re-read today.
